The Journey of Sinking

“But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted.”- Matthew‬ ‭14:30

I love to swim. When the opportunity for me to swim, doesn’t matter if it is the pool or beach, I am going to take it. For many of us, in order to swim, you have to take swimming lessons. Some people just go into the pool without being taught and immediately start to sink. We try our best impression of acting out we have ants in our pants underwater where we move at an astounding rate to just keep our head above water.

How many of us are sinking? Sinking can look like multiple things. We can be sinking into debt. We can be sinking into toxic relationships. We can be sinking into a challenging work field. We can be sinking into an unknown future. We normally sink for we don’t have the faith. We sink because our focus is on the problem, not the solution. We sink for we have no hope to stay afloat. We normally start off great, just like Peter in Matthew 14, but eventually, we lose our focus and start sinking.

Thankfully we have a hand to help us out of the sinking. We are blessed to have someone by our side that will never leave us nor forsake us(Deuteronomy 31:8). We have Jesus Christ. We have to refocus our eyes on Him(Hebrews 12:2). We should understand that we may be sinking but we know Jesus will rescue us when we say His name. Remember Jesus is bigger than the situation. Have the faith that Jesus keeps you afloat for the rest of your life. Let Jesus be your life-saver today to overcome the sinking of your life.
