The Journey of Insecurity

"Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth."- Colossians 1:2

What is Insecurity? It is the uncertainty or anxiety about oneself; lack of confidence. What does insecurity look like in our eyes? Insecurity looks like multiple things to us. Insecurity looks like a comparison. Insecurity looks like jealousy. Insecurity looks like selfishness. Insecurity looks like loneliness. Insecurity looks like desperation. Insecurity looks like anything quite opposite of Jesus.

I know how insecurity looks like because I deal with it more times than normal. I get insecure when I hear people say nice things about me. My mind plays tricks on me were to the point I don’t trust the people I talk to on a regular basis. It’s even tough to be a 3rd or 5th wheeler when my friends are in relationships and I am the lonely one. I don’t say anything about it or don’t even show it. I keep it to myself and usually be depressed privately.

How can I overcome insecurity? How can we overcome insecurity? How can we overcome the battles of not feeling good enough? How can we overcome the battles of being anxious or desperate? First, we seek God first and nothing else. “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”- Matthew 6:33. Second, we pray to God and not worry. “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.”- Philippians 4:6. Third, we ask God to create a new heart with a new identity. “Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me.”- Psalms 51:10. Lastly, we trust Him with our new identity. “Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.”- Ephesians‬ ‭3:17.

It’s important to remember this a daily walk with our new identity with Christ. We have to remember who we are every day with Christ. When the insecurity comes out of nowhere, and it will, you remember who you are in Christ. I am a child of God. I am chosen. I am not forsaken. I am deeply loved. I am richly blessed. I am highly favored. I am a part of God’s plan. I am not an accident. I am made on purpose for a purpose. I am capable of doing all things through Christ. Don’t let your insecurity become greater than God’s identity in your life.
