“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”- 1 Samuel‬ ‭16:7 Appearances can be deceiving sometimes. Sometimes we look at outward of a person and jump to the conclusion that they are great people. Sometimes, they’re not. I love how God told Samuel that He doesn’t judge by the appearance on the outside, but looks at the person’s heart. Samuel was looking for a new king to anoint, and he ended up at Jesse’s house. Jesse had 8 sons, but only 7 were in the house. Samuel checked them all out one by one. Samuel thought he founded the new king, but God said that there’s one more son. The last son was David. David was in the field as he was a shepherd. Shepherd was not compared to soldiers. Samuel only saw David as weak, but God saw David as king. Sometimes, if you’re wise, you have to do a heart check. Whatever is inside our hearts will come out. We can sometimes fake the actions with our appearances. We can fake people, but we cannot fake God. It’s easy to hide an ugly heart behind a beautiful face. Our heart is the most important part of our body. Why do you think God said to guard your above everything else? (Proverbs 4:23) We can show our true colors by showing the desires of our hearts. Please remember, we are still progressing, persevering people for God. We may desire things of this world, but we must repent, turn, from them. We have to seek and take delight in the Lord, and He will give us what our hearts truly desire. (Psalms 37:4) Let our hearts be for God first. Let us crave and act with the heart of Christ within us. When we have the heart of Christ, we will become the best version of ourselves with love, grace, purity, and compassion for all people.
